Video Game Reviews

I don’t have the time or patience to review every film I watch in-depth, so I will use a simplistic rating system. I think rating movies with numbers or letter grades is arbitrary and dumb, so instead I will use emojis. Yes, you read that right. Either I liked a movie, I didn’t, or I thought it was a mixed bag.

DOOM (2016)

DOOM Eternal (2021) ✅ Improves on the first game; a great sequel.

Fallout (1997) ✅ Use Fallout Fixt.

Fallout 2 (1998) ✅ Use the Restoration Patch.

Fallout 3 (2008) ✅ Install mods.

Fallout: New Vegas (2010) ⭐️Best RPG ever.

Phoenix Point (2019) Flawed but unique. It has an addicting XCOM-like gameplay loop at first, then gets stale during the late game.

The Last of Us Remastered (2014) ⭐️ An unforgettable, emotional rollercoaster.

Fallout 4 (2015) ✅ Heavily flawed, but still enjoyable. Get mods.

Shadow Warrior (2013) ❌Starts out okay, but the exploding balls quickly wore down my patience. I couldn’t bring myself to finish it 10 hours in.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011) 🙃 200+ hours in and I still haven’t been able to finish it. Pretty but shallow.

The Outer Worlds (2019) ✅ A fun, character-driven romp. Too bad it ends so abruptly!

Tomb Raider (2013)

XCOM: Enemy Unknown (2012) ✅

XCOM 2 (2016) ⭐️Goes best with the “War of the Chosen” expansion. The modding scene is fantastic.

XCOM: Chimera Squad (2020)

Xenonauts (2014) 🙃 There’s a lot to like, but the campaign is drawn out too long.
